Unable to watch apple TV without Airplay

I am trying play Netflix on Apple TV, and as soon I press play on the episode I want to watch I get a message saying to use Airplay. I don't want to because of the lag and having to have my computer open. How can I use ATV like normal? I've turned off Airplay off. The software number is 6.2.1. Any solutions?
